About

Studying the genetic basis for the difference between individuals in response to drugs.

The Department of Molecular and Clinical Pharmacology has a large programme of research in pharmacogenetics/pharmacogenomics. The ultimate aim of this research is to translate laboratory findings into the clinic for the benefit of patients, the public and the healthcare system.

Investment - The University has been selected by the Department of Health to receive a £3 million NHS Chair in Pharmacogenetics – the first and only such position in the country.

The University has funded cutting-edge equipment such as a state-of-the-art DNA archiving system. The archive will hold up to 300,000 DNA samples of patients and will sort and select samples via an automated robotic system, enabling high-throughput.

The Wolfson Foundation has provided £2 million towards a £10 million project to establish the Wolfson Centre for Personalised Medicine.
