Mantara Testimonials

“It’s a no brainer to me and the change I made to my statin medication improved my quality of life significantly.”

“When I first came across the Mantara PGX test, I was very excited as I have heard that personalised medicine is cutting edge but I was also aware that some of the genetic tests out there eg for allergies are rather generic and frankly, I’m not sure how accurate they really are.

I researched into Mantara and found that the test they provide was the one described in The Lancet medical journal. This gave me the confidence that this is a credible test.

I have been on statins for cholesterol for the last 15 years. Over the last 5 years, I’ve had weird pains in the thighs. My GP could not give any reasons for this but on research I found that statins can cause muscle pains.

In addition to this, I have always been extremely sensitive to most painkillers. Even post surgery, the medication used made me so unwell. I also have nerve pains and have tried many medications but could not tolerate any.

So I decided that I would take the Mantara test to see if it could give me answers to some of these issues.

The test itself was v easy to do, just a saliva sample. The report was relatively straightforward.

I was really intrigued to see my results in particular in relation to the statins and opiate group of pain killers.  Re my statins, my PGx test suggested that the statin I was on might not be best suited to me. I asked my GP if I could try another brand and OMG amazingly the pains in my thighs every night stopped. At first, I wasn’t even aware until my husband said I hadn’t been thumping my thighs due to muscle pains for a while!!

Re the painkillers, the test revealed that I am a slow metaboliser, so the drugs accumulate in my body giving me such severe side effects. If I were to need them, I would need a 1/4 of the usual dose.

Having this information in my medical records is extremely useful and for the cost of about £1 a day for a year, I have the results of my genetic test against a common panel of drugs for life. It’s a no brainer to me and the change I made to my statin medication improved my quality of life significantly.”

“I came across the Mantara pharmacogenomics test in a leaflet in a medical clinic I was at. The leaflet briefly explains what the test is about and it seems to me that it is a way of finding out whether medications at a dose and of a certain type are suitable, according to your genetic profile, as one size does not fit all, after all, we are all genetically unique!

I have had several different medications over the years to manage my symptoms and every time I go to the doctors, it’s just another tablet to try and if it doesn’t help, here is another. So, I’ve become increasingly frustrated. I researched the Mantara test and eventually decided it to give it a go. The test seems expensive but when I enquired of another company doing medication testing, they would only cover one drug rather than many drugs and it was almost double the price and another company for a panel of drugs was  3-4 times  more expensive! I was further reassured, on doing further research, that the Mantara test was registered with the MHRA and has a UKCA mark.

The results came back and the report gave a clear list of which drugs would suit me better than the others. There were some that I had been on but also some I had not tried. Even for the ones I had been on, it told me whether I needed the dose adjusted to suit my genes. I thought this was fascinating and I’m sure it would save the NHS a lot of money if they offered it!!

I now feel so much better.  The report also covered drugs that I am not on now eg warfarin, but it tells me that should I ever need it, I’d need to be on a lower dose for it to work for me because of the gene variant I have. Good to know!

This really is AI in medicine and I hope the NHS will be offering it in the future.“
